Flora & Fauna by Nicolette Mayer is a romantic celebration of botanical artistry inspired by the legendary Dutch tulips associated with the grand Royal Delft tulipières that adorned the stately homes and palaces of Europe.
Rooted in the rich cultural history of the Dutch Golden Age, Flora & Fauna draws inspiration from the extraordinary tulip mania of the 17th century — a moment when rare tulip bulbs became symbols of wealth, prestige, beauty, and obsession. Originally cultivated in the Ottoman Empire and introduced to Holland through Turkish traders, tulips captivated aristocrats, collectors, and artists alike, igniting one of history’s most fascinating cultural phenomena.
In Flora & Fauna, exuberant tulips, delicate ranunculus, wild narcissus, iris, anemones, and scattered meadow blossoms float freely across the ground in painterly bouquets and whimsical arrangements. The composition feels simultaneously curated and spontaneous — like flowers casually gathered from a magnificent European garden and artfully tossed upon silk.
Butterflies drift gently through the pattern, adding movement, poetry, and a sense of fleeting beauty. The overall effect evokes joie de vivre, romance, and the timeless elegance of old-world botanical illustration interpreted through a contemporary lens.
The collection pays homage to the incomparable Italian illustrator and textile visionary Vittorio Accornero, whose iconic “giardini di seta” silk garden motifs for Gucci inspired generations of artists, designers, and collectors. Like Accornero’s work, Flora & Fauna embraces fantasy, refinement, saturated color, and lush decorative storytelling while feeling endlessly fresh and modern.
Each colorway transforms the emotional atmosphere of the design: rich cobalt and sapphire grounds feel regal and dramatic, acid chartreuse and olive tones feel fashion-forward and avant-garde, black grounds create cinematic glamour and Dutch still-life intensity, orchid and lavender palettes soften the composition into romantic dreamscapes, warm golden neutrals evoke antique botanical papers and faded European textiles.
The scale and spacing allow the florals to breathe, giving the pattern a luxurious openness rather than an overcrowded traditional floral effect. This creates versatility across both classic and contemporary interiors.
Flora & Fauna embodies: Dutch Golden Age floral painting, Royal Delft tulipière elegance, Italian silk scarf artistry, romantic maximalism, old-world botanical illustration, contemporary luxury decoration, joyful color and layered storytelling
At once historical and fashion-forward, Flora & Fauna captures the spirit of collecting, beauty, and artistic abundance — a lush garden fantasy infused with romance, sophistication, and timeless European glamour.
