Flex by Nicolette Mayer — a spirited exploration of retro futurism, painterly movement, and layered texture inspired by the optimism and artistic experimentation of the 1960s and 70s.
At once playful and sophisticated, Flex captures the energetic swish of a loaded artist’s brush gliding across canvas in broad, confident gestures. Sweeping curves loop and intersect like spontaneous paint strokes suspended in motion, creating a rhythmic composition that feels simultaneously graphic, organic, and architectural.
The pattern is layered over a richly textured crosshatch ground reminiscent of woven linen, vintage textiles, artist canvas, and hand-screened fabrics, adding depth, tactility, and an artisanal sensibility. This juxtaposition of painterly movement and structured texture creates a compelling visual tension — soft yet geometric, expressive yet composed.
Flex channels: The Jetsons-era vision of the future, mid-century optimism and innovation, Space Age modernism, abstract expressionist brushwork, vintage textile artistry, 1960s Italian and Scandinavian graphics, retro-futuristic interiors with a contemporary twist
The flowing forms feel almost calligraphic — looping, twisting, and dancing across the surface with effortless spontaneity. Color washes softly overlap and dissolve into one another, creating layered dimensionality and subtle tonal movement that gives the pattern a luminous atmospheric quality.
Rather than feeling rigidly geometric, Flex maintains an easy sophistication through its painterly execution. The broad gestural strokes feel hand-drawn and human, softening the modernist structure and allowing the design to function beautifully as both statement pattern and elevated texture.
The collection embodies artistic freedom, optimistic modernism, casual sophistication, layered retro glamour, movement and fluidity, soft architectural rhythm, contemporary gallery-inspired interiors
Its layered painterly quality allows the design to shift beautifully between moods — playful and energetic in brighter palettes, calm and architectural in neutrals, and deeply sophisticated in tonal monochromatic colorways.
Bold yet approachable, artistic yet highly livable, Flex reimagines retro futurism through the lens of contemporary luxury — a celebration of movement, texture, optimism, and modern artistry.
